Historic Røros

Røros is a cultural heritage you should actively use. With walking distance between sights and events, you have time to feel the magic.

Mountain town walk: The walk gives you a basic introduction to how the old mountain road community developed. The listed houses are like pearls on a string. We also visit backyards that show the special farming system in the town. Can also be combined with a guided tour of Røros Church.

Rørosmuseet Smelthytta: In the old smeltery at Malmplassen in Røros town center, you can learn more about the history of Røros and its copper works. The history is brought to life through models of mines, smelting huts and the technical equipment that was in use. The exhibition "Ti finpussa" shows 19th-century formal wear from Røros. Changing theme exhibitions throughout the year.

Guided tour of Olavsgruva: A guided tour of Olavsgruva is a walk through 333 years of mining history. The tour goes 500 meters into the mountain, and 50 meters below ground level. In the mine there is high humidity and 5 degrees all year round, so bring warm clothes and good footwear.

Guided tour of Røros Church: " Bergstadens Ziir" - best known as Røros Church, was built in the heyday of the copper works "for the glory of God and the adornment of the mountain town". The church, which was completed in 1784, rightly bears the name as it sits majestically above the wooden houses. The National Heritage Board considers the church to be one of Norway's ten most high-profile churches, so to experience Røros you have to experience Bergstadens Ziir.
