Elden 2023
Elden is Norway’s second-largest open-air theater. Come and experience it for yourself too!
The play takes place at Slegghaugene, in the heart of the Røros World Heritage Site, just a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Slegghaugene forms a majestic stage for the drama that unfolds during the evening hours in the transition between July and August. “Elden” takes us back to 1718–1719 when 10,000 Swedish soldiers, led by General Carl Gustaf Armfeldt, marched towards Trondheim to take over Norway, under orders from Karl XII. Under the leadership of General De la Barre, hundreds of soldiers were sent to Røros – where much of the action takes place. When Karl XII was shot, the Swedish soldiers began their retreat to Sweden. The Death March – where 4,000 soldiers froze to death on their way across the border mountains towards Sweden – is a central part of the musical play “Elden.”
